Costa Rica's Southern Pacific Coast, stretches from Dominical to the Osa Peninsula (490 kilometers in area/ 303 miles) and it is among the most undeveloped and wild, natural regions in the country. Known as the “last frontier” in Costa Rica, this is an area packed with flora and fauna, as well as numerous world class beaches and some of the best National Parks in Costa Rica - including the world famous Corcovado National Park. This beautiful region includes several cantons of the Puntarenas province such as: Golfito, Corredores, Osa and Coto Brus, as well as the canton of Pérez Zeledón (province of San José). In fact, the administrative center of Pérez Zeledon, San Isidro, figures not only as the port of entry to the region but also as its distribution center.
This region is distinguished by its tourism-related products connected to sun and beach, nature, adventure, water sports, archeology, rural and indigenous communities. It features world class surfing beaches at Dominical and Pavones, serious diving among the hammerhead and whale sharks around Isla del Coco, amazing National Parks at Corcovado, Ballena & Isla del Cano and some of the country’s best beaches at Drake’s Bay and Playa Zancudo. Due to its ample size, there are a wide variety of ecosystems in this region that range from rain forests in the lower regions to cloud forests in higher zones. Within its domain the tallest mountain in Costa Rica, Chirripó (3,820 meters) from which, both coasts can be seen (Pacific and Caribbean) when it’s clear. Chirripó mountain forms part of La Amistad International Park Costa Rica-Panama. In topographic prominence, it is point No. 38 in the world and figures among the 1,500 highest in the world. In the park there are life zones such as high plateaus cloud and rain forests. So take your time to get down here, you never know what you'll discover! |
