Irazú Volcano, Orosi Valley & Lankaster Gardens
After being picked up at their hotel in a comfortable minibus, guests are transported east of the city through lush green farmlands with all kinds of vegetables and small towns. The main attraction of this national park is the highest active volcano in Costa Rica, the Irazú Volcano , at 3432 meters. Once at the volcano you can observe the main craters and on a clear day both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans can be seen.
Later we drive to the old capital of Costa Rica, Cartago and visit the Basílica de Los Angeles, the most famous church of Costa Rica. Inside the Basilica is a chapel dedicated to the Virgin known as La Negrita , the patron saint of Costa Rica where every year pilgrims from all Costa Rica come on a procession on foot . The we stop at Lankester Gardens, a botanical garden run by the University of Costa Rica where you can observe bromeliads, orchids, heliconias , palms and other types of plants.
Following we visit Orosi Valley famous for its remarkable views, colonial churches , hot spings, coffee fincas, the by a hydroelectric damming project. We stop for lunch in one of the local restaurants before returning back to San José.
