Cerro Chato Volcano Hike & Fortuna Waterfalls
Enjoy an exhilarating hike to an extinct volcano!
Located just off the southeast flank of Arenal Volcano, the smaller Volcan Cerro Chato is actually an older cousin living in the shadow of its more active younger sibling. Rising to some 1,140 meters, Cerro Chato Volcano has shown no volcanic activity for the past 3,500 years.

The tour begins at the Old Observatory Lodge after passing by the Arenal National Park, Volcano and Lake. You will travel up through primary and secondary rainforests, experiencing the thrill of dense jungle, observing coatis, monkeys and a wide variety of birds. Your reward at the bottom is a swim in the magnificent and powerful La Fortuna Waterfall.
The day includes approximately four hours of steep trail hiking, two hours of swimming and 45 minutes of transportation time.
