Rincón de la Vieja Nature Exploration
Rincón de la Vieja National Park comprises a dormant volcano with hot springs, bubbling mud pots, waterfalls, rivers and vast expanses of tropical forest that is home to abundant wildlife.

Day 1: Hacienda Guachipelín Hike and Waterfall
You’ll be picked up at Liberia’s Daniel Oduber International Airport, or your Liberia hotel and driven to Hotel Hacienda Guachipelín – a 3,706-acre working ranch on the western slope of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano. That massive, dormant volcano is cloaked in tropical dry forest that is home to white-faced monkeys, toucans, magpie jays and an array of other animals. After check-in and a buffet lunch, put on your bathing suite and hike one kilometer to the Las Chorreras, a double cascade on the Blanco River that forms a natural swimming pool. It’s the perfect excursion for a refreshing dip and admiring the surrounding tropical nature. From there, continue hiking to lookout point that affords a scenic view of the volcano and surrounding ranchland before returning to the hotel for a sumptuous dinner. Day 2: Rincón de la Vieja Horseback Trip
After an early breakfast, we’ll depart at 8 am for a full-day horseback adventure to nearby Rincón de la Vieja National Park. Climb onto one of Hacienda Guachipelín’s 120 horses and ride past rolling pastureland toward massive Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, which is covered with forest that is home to everything from white tailed deer to howler monkeys. Keep your eye out for some of park’s 250 bird species, which include magpie jays, toucans and blue-crowned motmots. Our stops will include Oropendola Waterfall, natural hot springs and bubbling volcanic mud pots. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in the park, and will return to the hotel in time to wash up and rest before dinner. Overnight at Hotel Hacienda Guachipelín or Borinquen Hotel. (B. L, D)
Day 3: Canopy and Canyon Adventure
After an early breakfast, we’ll start an exciting canopy and canyon tour at 8:30 am. The tour is an adrenaline-pumping trip through the forest canopy and the narrow river canyon on zip lines, using pulleys attached to mountain climbing harnesses. It includes rappelling, rock climbing, a Tarzan swing, and hanging bridges in a breathtaking canyon carved by the Blanco River over the course of millions of years. Return to the hotel for lunch and check out, after which you’ll be driven to Daniel Oduber International Airport Liberia, or downtown Liberia. Overnight at Hotel Hacienda Guachipelín or Borinquen Hotel (B, L)
