Visitors can now enjoy a new adventure option within Costa Rica. The following travel itinerary includes the perfect mixture of adventure excursions, wildlife observation and leisure while enjoying a few of Costa Rica’s most impressive natural settings.
This eight day tour hosted by Aventuras Naturales and its seasoned land guides includes destinations such Irazu Volcano, the highest volcano of Costa Rica. Activities included are mountain biking, hiking and coffee processing plant tours. Guests will embark on a remarkable whitewater rafting adventure down the wild and scenic Pacuare River, including an overnight stay at the deluxe Pacuare Lodge, recently featured in Conde Nast Traveler, National Geographic, Travel Chanel and more. The itinerary ends with a bit of relaxation as travelers enjoy sand, surf and sun along the jungle-lined beaches of the south Caribbean coast.
Day 01: San Jose – Arrival –Orientation activity
You'll be picked up at the airport and transferred to San José for an overnight stay at the Hotel Milvia this small and cozy property is the restored home of Ing. Ricardo Fernández Peralta. Dating from 1930 it still conserves its original ambiance and architectural design. Restoration was undertaken with the aim of creating a unique atmosphere in mind. Its mix of antique furnishings combine with modern amenities and a truly personal service to provide a relaxing oasis, a home-away-from-home--minutes from the city yet calm and tranquil. Day 02: Irazu Volcano Hiking Trip and Biking Experience – Turrialba area.
After breakfast, the adventure starts early morning by traveling (1.5 hr drive) to the Irazu Volcano National Park, Costa Rica’s highest volcanic peak.. guests will have the opportunity to hike to the rim of its many craters. The trip continues on Mountain Bike with a half-day backcountry ride along the high volcanic slopes that lead to the active and smoking Turrialba Volcano (3389 m). We’ll enjoy a late lunch at one of the many local mountain restaurants before continuing down the towards the central town of Turrialba (600 m), known throughout the adventure community as the Whitewater Rafting capital of Central America. Tonight’s dinner and accommodations will be at Hotel Casa Turire, the area’s finest lodging establishments, you'll find yourself in enchanting, serene surroundings, far away from the demands and stresses of life. Irazu Volcano Tour
Trail or Walking Distance: Approximately 1 Kilometer.
Difficulty Level: Easy (altitude can be factor for some)
Trail Description: Parking lot – main crater rim section includes walking along ridges and within other extinct craters. Optional ‘quick’ climb (option to walk or drive in vehicle) to summit location where sometimes you can observe the Pacific Ocean.
Mountain Bike Tour
Route Distance: 30 kilometers
Estimated Time: 3 to 5 hours
Difficulty Level: moderate (experienced biking, recommended)

Route Scenery: Spectacular! Above cloud-line views of verdant valleys and lush mountains. Cattle farms and plantations, cheese-making factories, traditional country villages; waterfalls, rivers, streams and protected rain forest reserves.
Day 03: Coffee tour – Dockie Kayaking- Turrialba area.
Coffee tour in the nearby and transfer to the Pejibaye River and start paddling down the whitewater rapids aboard Inflatable Kayaks. Lunch will be provided at Casa Turire with time to relax and enjoy hotel amenities, before traveling to the nearby town of Turrialba to interact and learn about local culture. The trip returns to the hotel for dinner this evening. Overnight at Casa Turire (standard room, breakfast and taxes included).

INFLATABLE KAYAKING- Activity Details
River Route Distance: Approximately 6 Kilometers
Estimated Paddle Time: 1.5 – 2 hours
Difficulty Level: Beginner level (no experience necessary)
Equipment Included: Inflatable kayak, life jacket (PFD type V), helmet, dual-bladed paddle.
River Route Scenery: The Pejibaye River offers kayakers excellent whitewater rapids combined with lush vegetation and very clean water. This section starts off near the town of Pejibaye and then eventually merges in to the main Reventazon River, ending at the Angostura Reservoir, where kayakers paddle right to their lakeside hotel property.
DAY 4:
White water Rafting Trip - Canopy Tour – Pacuare Lodge
The adventure continues to the remote and lush river canyons of the wild and scenic Pacuare River, known for its world-class rapids and stunning tropical setting. We’ll embark on a three-day remote rainforest journey staying overnight at the riverside Pacuare Lodge, one of Costa Rica’s most inspiring ecological lodging establishments. To access this remote lodge we’ll raft down a 2-hour section of class 2-3 rapids including stops to enjoy side hikes and swim holes.
Upon arrival at the Pacuare Lodge guests will enjoy a healthy and freshly-prepared lunch. This afternoon your guides will lead you on hands-on exploration of the rainforest canopy including zipping across cables that connect platforms suspended over 100 feet above the jungle ground!

WHITEWATER RAFTING- Activity Details
River Route Distance: Approximately 7 Kilometers
Estimated Paddle Time: 1 hour
Difficulty Level: Class 3 (no experience necessary, 12 years + required)
Equipment Included: Rafts, life jackets (P.F.D), helmets and professional river guides.
River Route Scenery: The Pacuare River offers those willing to tackle its challenging rapids some of the most impressive scenery in all of Costa Rica. Along this section you can observe farms, portions of protected rainforest and beautiful, secluded side creeks and waterfalls.
CANOPY ADVENTURE (Cable Traversing)- Activity Details
Walking Required: Approximately 10 Minutes
Estimated Duration: 2.5hours.
Number Traverses (cables): 8 Cables, 2 rapppel down
Difficulty Level: N/A No experience necessary.
Equipment Included: Certified harness, separate security line.
DAY 5: White Water Rafting - Puerto Viejo de Limon
After breakfast you’ll pack up and bid farewell to the Pacuare Lodge as the Whitewater Rafting continues down the class 3-4 gorge section of the Pacuare River. Today’s river trip includes challenging class 4 rapids, large tracks of protected rainforests, breathe-taking waterfalls and more opportunities to spot exotic species in the wild. After the river trip we’ll travel to Puerto Viejo beach, located in along the south Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Overnight at the Shawanda Lodge (bungalow room, breakfast and taxes included). Dinner on your own in one of the local restaurants.
DAY 6: Puerto Viejo Beaches – leisure day
Full day at leisure, visit the nearby and colorful beaches, ask you driver and guide to take you to one of them. Or join an optional tour. Overnight at the Shawanda Lodge (bungalow room, breakfast and taxes included). Dinner and lunch on your own.
 
Day 07: Puerto Viejo de Limon – San Jose
Today will start with a lazy breakfast including some free time to enjoy a few hours of morning beach time. Check-out is scheduled about 11am as we travel (3.5 hr. drive) back towards the capital city of San Jose taking the scenic route that traverses Braulio Carrillo National Park. This evening’s events include a farewell dinner celebration at a local restaurant in the city as well as an optional nocturnal outing to enjoy San Jose’s vibrant nightlife scene. Overnight at the Hotel Milvia (standard room, breakfast and taxes included). Farewell dinner at the hotel.
DAY 8:
Transfer out service to the International Airport.
Today is your final moment in tropical paradise before your departure flight back home. A timely ground shuttle will be provided to the nearby international airport.
